The Lions Club of Frenchs Forest along with Lion Club members from Manly, Balgowlah, St Ives, Berowra, Baulkham Hills and Campbelltown together on the 4 May 2026 were inspired to learn about the Lions Club Eye Health Progam (LEHP) initiative (as endorsed by Optometry Australia and the Centre for Eye Health (at NSW University)).
Did you know:
– 90% of vision loss in Australia is avoidable or treatable.
– with 80% of learning processed through the eyes, and
– 1 in 5 children in Australia with an undetected vision problem.
Our special guest Lions Stephen Lui and Jennifer Barclay, explained that the LEHP provides training for Lions Club Members and volunteers (with Working with Children checks), and facilitates with schools and community groups, to screen children from 3 to 18 years old (with parental permission) for eye health, identifying individual children to see an optometrist. The LEHP service initiative has a big positive impact, changing children’s lives. In the last year alone, across Australia and New Zealand over 19,000 children were LEHP screened.
After the presentation there was lots of enthusiastic discussion, and everyone left the meeting with a commitment to share about the wonderful LEHP initiative with their club members and how they could together help make a positive difference in children’s lives.
